Algarve holidays in Albufeira are suited to just
about everybody. Once a thriving seaport, Albufeira has a rich history of earth
quakes, destruction and poverty but has thankfully enjoyed a much more happy
recent history and has now become a popular tourist resort,
with over 12000 permanent residents originally from countries from all over the
world.
Holidays
in Albufeira can be lively if you wish. The resort has an excellent reputation
for its nightlife, with
a variety of International bars, restaurants and clubs filling up after sunset. For the sun-seekers,
there are a good selection of beaches stretching out to the east and west of
the town. Albufeira is also a great location for golfers and there is a choice of
courses within a half hours drive, and the closest to Albufeira is the course at
Salgados
which is rightly known for its hospitality and water hazards. Nearby
Vilamoura>
offers a choice of courses which reflect the enormous investment which has been
made in their construction and the surrounding infrastructure.
Other things to do at Albufeira include visiting the 2 local museums. There
is a small museum of 15th and 17th century Ming ceramics and the new Virtual Arqueológico Museum. There is also a Municipal art gallery that holds regular
exhibitions during the season. Also nearly finished is a new Marina on the west
side of town, which will offer another interesting place to explore.
Nearby areas include Armação de Pera, Boliqueime, Guia and Paderne with its
ruined castle perched on an isolated hill some distance from the village. At
Ponte Grande there are impressive caverns with large arches and the underwater
caverns known locally as the Grutas do Xorino.
Balaia & Vale de Parra in
the Albufeira region are generally recognized as some of
the principal destination for Private Villa Holidays in the Algarve, Portugal.
The old fishing village, has been greatly expanded but still retains some of
the charm of it's past days, with all the demands of a modern holiday destination.
Now more renowned for the nightlife (Montechorro area for example) the areas
of Guia, Balaia, Vale de Parra and Castello provide some excellent private Villa
locations around the area.
