Youngsters playing football on an adjacent
field raised the alarm at around 20h30, and
informed the local fire brigade.
Of the three vessels, one seven metre
recreational boat and two smaller Marina
support boats, none could be saved, the
overall cost of the damage not yet having
been assessed.
Also yet to be determined are the causes
of the fire. Despite not confirming it,
Marina officials have not put aside the
possibility of criminal involvement. PJ
police are also carrying out investigations.
A case spokesperson said, "The only
indication we have is that the fire did not
start in the larger boat", adding that this
is not a "normal" or "straightforward" case,
and that everything is still being analysed.
Video footage from surveillance cameras
has already been scrutinised by authorities
whilst other pieces of information and
evidence are still being gathered.
Named the ‘Mare Nostrum', the largest of
the three boats was owned by a Portuguese
proprietor and used for recreational deepsea
fishing trips.
The other two were smaller, open-top
boats, docked and at the disposal of Marina
workers.
