Firstly, on Saturday September 22nd, the Algarve (as
indeed the whole of Portugal) will see traffic
drastically reduced due to the European ‘No Car' day.
Visitors and locals alike are urged to opt for
collective modes of transport, which will run on
alternative routes, as many cities' main roads will be
cut off.
This is to encourage people to opt for even ‘greener'
modes of transportation, like bicycles, roller blades,
and walking.
This weekend, on September 22nd and 23rd, Portimão
will host the international BMX ‘FieldControl'
championships, which will bring high-ranking competitors
from 13 different countries to the city's ‘Youth Park'
(Parque da Junventude – behind buildings opposite the
Continente shopping centre).
Over the weekend a display of stunts and
demonstrations will be held to thrill adrenalin addicts,
including BMX bike stunts, graffiti competitions and
brake dancing displays. The weekend will close with a
magic party in Praia da Rocha.
It is organised by the Portimão ‘BiCross' club,
sponsored by Portimão City Hall.
In Alte, one of the Algarve's most beautiful
traditional villages, International Tourism Day will be
celebrated on September 27th with the inauguration of
its new tourist information bureau.
As will happen with the tourist bureaus of Loulé,
Quarteira, Querença and Salir, tourists will be offered
the chance to sample regional sweets and liqueurs, free
of charge.
Loulé will host a number of events.
On September 28th, 29th, and 30th, a number of
excursions and interactive events have been organised to
celebrate the city's patrimony. These include
archaeology excavations in the ‘Casa das Bicas'; imagery
and photography projections will be shown in the
Municipal Museum, and preschool infants are invited to
participate in an exciting activity named ‘Lets reap
dried fruits', an educational event to take place in the
museum.
Also in the municipality of Loulé, until October
13th, various cultural venues will be participating in
the city's 9th ‘Ancient Music' event. These will feature
concerts and live renditions from musicians playing
masterpieces by great composers, ranging from the
medieval era, through to the Renaissance and Baroque
eras.
A series of master classes are also on the agenda.
