In a statement released on Wednesday
afternoon, the Évora District Attorney-General explained that no further
questioning of the parents of Madeleine McCann has been scheduled. The news

Expat bean counters....
Ask just about any expat living in the Algarve
countryside what trees they have in their garden and the vast majority will say
at least one Alfarroba (Carob) tree. Most will have a lot more than one, as the

Youth digs his own beach grave....
A 19-year-old young man has died on the Forte
Novo beach last weekend, west of Quarteira, after digging a hole and apparently
being buried alive after the area surrounding the hole caved in. So far no one

woman said she spotted Madeleine McCann at a fuel station in Marrakech, yet

Portugal rattled by biggest 'quake since
1969....
The earthquake recorded Monday morning off the coast of
South-western Portugal was the largest recorded by the Met Office in 37 years,

Faro airport welcomes passenger number 5
million....
Faro airport has reached the landmark target of seeing five
million passengers pass through its doors in the space of just under a year. To

Jorge
Miguel Ponte Silva, aged 23, who started golf lessons less than two years ago,
is the Amateur Golf Champion of the Algarve. He claimed the title by defeating

Sardine Festival breaks all records...
From August 4th to August 17th some 74,500
people visited the Portimão riverfront sardine festival, easily outweighing last

Life Expectancy up whilst divorce rates
surge....
Figures released by the European Commission show that life
expectancy is on the increase in Portugal together with a surge in divorce
rates. The Commission’s official statistics agency Eurostat, in its review of
demographic trends in the 25-member state European Union, revealed that the EU’s
population increased by 2.3 million or 0.5 per cent in 2005 compared to a 2.1
million rise.
