Western Algarve

The natural beauty of the Western Algarve, with its rolling pine-clad hills and wild, dramatic coast is complemented by its delightful towns and villages. The centuries-old fortress town of Lagos tucked away behind its Moorish walls offers traditional charm, and modern facilities for residents and holidaymakers alike. While quaint fishing villages like Portimão and Praia da Luz enchant the visitor with their pretty, winding alleys, superb beaches, and abundant restaurants with fresh-caught local fish on the grill.

A huge choice of sports is available in the area, including sailing, water-skiing, diving, fishing, horse-riding, tennis, and more. But perhaps the jewel in the crown for Western Algarve is the world-renowned series of championship 18-hole golf courses. Famous names like the Penina – Henry Cotton's flagship course – Boavista, Palmares and Parque da Floresta attract thousands of keen golfers all year round.

Central Algarve

Slightly different again is the Central Algarve area. More developed, and geared to giving visitors the best experience possible, Central Algarve is the playground of the region. Families with children return time and again to the exciting fun parks, such as 'Slide and Splash', and just about every sporting activity can be found among the resort and hotel complexes. Sun worshippers meanwhile take advantage of the miles of glorious golden beaches, asking no more than sun, sea, sand and the occasional beach bar.
