Whilst visiting Albufeira it is well worth taking a day away from the beach or pool to visit the two local museums. There is a small museum of 15th and 17th century Ming ceramics and the new Virtual Arqueológico Museum. There is also a Municipal art gallery which hosts regular exhibitions during the season. Also there is a new Marina on the west side of town, which offers another interesting place to explore. Albufeira – and particularly the Old Town district have a rich history and culture which is quite removed from the modern associations. we encourage you to explore the local districts and take some time to learn a little about Albufeira and the Algarve in general.
Nearby areas include Armação de Pêra, Boliqueime, Guia and Paderne with its ruined castle perched on an isolated hill some distance from the village. At Ponte Grande there are impressive caverns with large arches and the underwater caverns of Grutas do Xorino.
Nearby Balaia> & Vale de Parra> are also recognized as some of the principal destination for holidays in the Algarve, Portugal. The old fishing village, has been greatly expanded but still retains some of the charm of it’s past days, with all the demands of a modern holiday destination. Now more renowned for the nightlife (the Montechorro area for example) the areas of Guia, Balaia, Vale de Parra and Castello provide some excellent holiday locations around the area.
