The Algarve is a province separated
geographically from the rest of Portugal by the Monchique Mountains, and
bordered to the south by the Atlantic Ocean. The cost of living is relatively
inexpensive in the Algarve, compared to other European holiday destinations, and
there is a wide variety of local produce as well as imported goods available to
buy. Fresh fish and good, local wines are readily available, and fish is often
eaten within hours of being caught.
