The Funchal Ridge (named after one of the most famous of the old colony islands) is a collection of eclectically designed and styles villas, all linked by an ancient calcada track that meanders along the hillside. Many of the properties are of a more traditional older style, but recently newer villas have been added to the hillside, and the mixture makes for a fascinating urban mixture of design and style. Mainly south facing, the Funchal Ridge looks down towards the coast across a largely unspoilt area of Algarve countryside, set out as fig or orange groves.
