All about Quinta do Lago
A stay at Quinta do
Lago can be as busy or as restful as you desire. For the active, the resort
boasts excellent amenities: golf, horse riding and tennis as well as a variety
of non-polluting water sports. There is a great selection of first class
restaurants catering to all tastes as well as top nightclubs. Fine shops and a
health club add to the range of pleasant distractions. For those wishing to do
nothing, a beautiful 2 mile stretch of golden sand as well as endless unspoilt
countryside await you. There is something here for all of the family.
Villas here are luxurious,
and well spaced, due to a strict low density building policy being in place
which ensures there are only a limited number of building plots being available
at any time. There is a wide choice of three, four or five bedroom properties all complete
with their own pool and garden.
Golf is a way of
life here and the development has played host to the Portuguese Open seven times
- the Championship
courses are acknowledged as among the best in the world. The attractions of
72-holes of outstanding golf and the pleasant Algarvean climate, only a few
hours flying time from most European capitals, are sufficient incentives for
many enthusiasts to return regularly or to invest in a luxurious home here.
Holiday makers staying on site receive preferential rates and starting times at
the golf club.
The Algarve is a
province separated geographically from the rest of Portugal by the Monchique
mountain range. The cost of living is inexpensive
and there is a wide variety of local produce as well as imported goods available
to buy. Fresh fish and good, local wine are also freely available, and fish is
eaten within hours of being caught.
The Algarve boasts
around 3000 hours of annual sunshine, and therefore virtually guarantees blue
skies year round. The climate is great for outdoor activities and golf, horse
riding and tennis are widely practiced throughout the whole year. The local
people are some of the most hospitable in the world, and many Algarvians speak
English as a second language.
Located
in the Municipality of Loulé, Quinta do Lago is 20 minutes drive
from Faro International Airport; 2 hours from Lisbon and the same
distance from Seville in southern Spain.
Quinta
do Lago is without a doubt one of the most exciting and exclusive
resorts on the Algarve and without doubt boasts some of the most
spectacular and beautiful properties available for rental or sale.
Quinta do Lago was founded in 1972, and the 800 acre residential
estate borders mile after mile of unspoilt golden beaches which are
constantly bathed in sunshine and enjoy the rolling waves of the
Atlantic Ocean. Pine forests and orange groves meander through some
of the best golf courses in the world, and because of the UNESCO Ria
Famosa bird sanctuary (see below) there is a strict 8% building
restriction enforced throughout the area. The geographical location
of Quinta do Lago, combined with the excellent facilities available
for the family as a whole will ensure that the area continues to be
a unique destination - offering excellent investment potential and
return.
The development of the Quinta do Lago
estate is regulated by the General Plan of Urbanization, which has
been officially approved. This controls the distribution of
individual villa plots, commercial and mixed development within the
larger plots allocated for tourist 'villages'.
The different residential sectors, whether individual villas with
large private gardens, or low level apartment complexes, are always
constructed using one of the special features of the estate, such
as, golf courses, woodland or lakes as a focal point. Quinta do Lago
is a symbol on the Algarve for quality, and it is one of the few
places in the world where you can purchase a luxury villa, apartment
or a townhouse to enjoy a sophisticated lifestyle in amongst such a
tranquil surrounding as a protected nature reserve.
Special
attention is paid to the environment at Quinta do Lago because 18.4
hectares of the Ria Formosa Natural Park falls within its
boundaries. This tidal inlet is the UNESCO protected home of
migratory birds and a wetland of world importance. It is one of the
last unspoilt coastal zones in Europe. Quinta do Lago has created
two nature trails, which have been designed to enhance awareness of
the environmental value of the area.
The Ria
Formosa is a lagoon separated from the Atlantic Ocean by a coastal
dune system, which is broken up by various natural and artificial
inlets. It includes a narrow strip of land and a series of coastal
dunes running almost parallel to the mainland, formed by peninsulas
and sandy islands which serve to protect the salt marshes, channels
and islets.
The Ria
Formosa is a protected area carrying the status of 'Natural
Reserve'. It was legally established as such in 1987 with its own
management plan and with the objectives of preserving the lagoon
system, fauna, flora and migratory species, thus contributing to its
economic, social and cultural progress. This protected area extends
through the districts of Loulé, Olhão, Tavira and Vila Real de Santo
António covering an area of approximately 18,400 hectares along 60
kilometres of coastline.
